5 tips to crush low stakes poker
1) be the aggressor preflop: in raked games we generally want to play fewer pots and when we do play then we want to play bigger ones. we’re also going to realize the biggest edge playing heads up pots where we don’t have to hit our hand to win. also, our opponents are going to under 4b bluff when we 3b, thus allowing us to 3b more hands profitably and realize our equity.
2) cbet range in position: cbet our entire range on flops heads up in position! range bets are hard to play against and in general our opponents are going to make several mistakes: fastplaying value too much, playing draws too passively, and calling too wide in general on flops.
3) check range out of position as preflop raiser: players generally make bigger mistakes when they are in position vs a check then vs a bet. they stab too much, they telegraph hand strength with sizing, and they don’t check back enough very very strong hands.
4) fold to aggression. low stakes players bluff, but mostly for small sizes when we give them rope. when they respond to aggression with aggression, they are generally massively underbluffing and we can just make ridiculous folds.
5) bluff capped ranges!! this is not one you hear often at low stakes - but because players fastplay too many hands on early streets and call too many weak hands / they get to the river with so many hands that can’t withstand aggression and have to do quite a bit of folding.
