PokerStars - Absolute Poker - UltimateBet Offices Raided in Costa RicaVIDEO DESCRIPTION:
http://bit.ly/sportsbookreview Costa Rican authorities have raided the offices of PokerStars, Absolute Poker and UlitmateBet reportedly as an indirect result of the Black Friday indictments. According to Poker Stars, the site IS continuing to operate, and the office is not being shut down permanently. Employees are expected to be allowed to return to the office at 3 PM Costa Rican time today, so the OIJ went looking for something, again it's not clear exactly what, or why a mid-day raid on Friday was necessary. Some have speculated that this might have something to do with protecting local employees. IDS, the Absolute Poker Company, shut its doors after Black Friday and reportedly had payroll and other obligations of several million dollars that it was not paying. The Costan Rica Police (the Organismo de Investigaciones Judiciales) have been looking for the founders of AP/UB, Scott Brent and Olman Rimola but have been unable to find them. This brought back memories of the sportsbook BetOnSports, which shut its doors a few years ago and wound up not paying millions it owed to employees, after saying it would for more than a year. The IOJ may not be doing the bidding/dirty work of the US department of justice, as some are speculating, and may be primarily concerned with the interests of local employees. A number of other sites, including some private homes of high-up employees of other poker sites, were also raided earlier today. Poker Stars, it should be noted, is said to be run operationally out of the Isle of Man, not Costa Rica. We are continuing to dig up whatever info we can about this.
